Applying sunflower oil on eczema twice a day reduces inflammation and improves the protective barrier of the skin. A plant extract known as Cardiospermum helps to reduce itchiness, inflammation, and bacteria on the skin.
For people with eczema, it is essential to bathe every day, as it keeps the skin hydrated and free of infection. To manage this condition people with eczema can take different types of bath with oatmeal, baking soda, vinegar, bath oil, and bleach. Bathing should be immediately followed by the application of moisturizers within three minutes of bathing. This will stop the skin from becoming dry.
Adopting skincare routines and habits help to cope with atopic dermatitis. Avoid scratching the affected area to reduce inflammation. Woolen clothing that irritates the skin should also be avoided. It is ideal to also avoid strong soaps and detergents and products that may have fragrances, scents, and dyes. Washing the skin with lukewarm water is advised while scrubbing dry skin is not. Wet wrap therapy is recommended, as wrapping wet strips of fabric or gauze around the affected areas are said to keep the skin hydrated and seals in the moisturizer. The wrap can be left on for several hours or even overnight. Wear full-sleeved clothing and hats to cover yourself when you go out in the sun or have to spend long hours outdoors.
